NEW YORK (April 8, 2014) – Attorneys Alan R. Greenfield and David W. Oppenheim from the international law firm Greenberg Traurig have been named two of the best franchise lawyers in the United States, according to Franchise Times. Their names are included in the publication’s April 2014 “Legal Eagles” list.
According to Franchise Times, “Legal Eagles” are nominated by leading franchisors and other lawyers who work in the franchise industry. Those listed were acknowledged for their attention to their clients and their clients’ businesses, as well as for possessing outstanding legal skills.
Greenfield, a shareholder in the firm’s Chicago and Miami offices, concentrates his practice on international and domestic franchising, licensing and distribution matters. He counsels franchisors and manufacturers on international expansion around the globe and on everyday compliance and other franchise or distributor-related issues, such as registration and disclosure matters, negotiating agreements, relationship termination laws, maintaining good franchisee/distributor relations, and resolving disputes with franchisees/distributors. Greenfield also handles mergers and acquisitions and sophisticated financing transactions involving franchise, license or distribution networks.
Oppenheim, a shareholder in the firm’s New Jersey and New York offices, is a Chambers USA-ranked franchise attorney who has been named a Franchise Times “Legal Eagle” for the ninth consecutive year. He advises both emerging and mature companies with respect to planning, structuring and implementing national and international franchise, distribution and licensing programs. Oppenheim also handles franchise related mergers and acquisitions and sophisticated financing transactions on behalf of his clients. He also routinely counsels clients regarding complex franchise and distributor relationship issues and disputes.
Franchise Times provided excerpts for a couple of the most-nominated lawyers, to give a glimpse of the praise they generated from colleagues and clients. One of those quotes referred to Greenfield: “There are really three kinds of franchise lawyers. The first simply is looking for a buck. The second is cut and dried and has a formulaic way of doing things. The last is the Alan Greenfield type, who is more interested in having you as a permanent client.”
